The School

Mackenzie College is a state, co-educational school (year 7-13 high school). It is located in Fairlie, a beautiful rural town, with the backdrop of the mountains and lakes of the Mackenzie. It is only 40 minutes drive inland from Timaru and two hours from Christchurch. The school is set in spacious and attractive park-like grounds, with close proximity to the mountains, Aoraki Mt Cook (New Zealand’s highest mountain), 3 ski fields (Roundhill, Fox Peak and Mt Dobson), rivers (Opuha and Opihi) and lakes (Opuha and Tekapo). Our mission statement says that Mackenzie College shall provide a positive learning environment where all students are encouraged to strive for excellence and to acquire the skills which will enable them to become responsible citizens of New Zealand and the World. Our school is closely involved with the community, and as such is proud of the partnership between students, families, staff and the local community.

As a school, Mackenzie College is committed to and embraces, new developments to enhance the learning and enjoyment while at the college. We are currently involved in Raising Achievement For All (RAFA), Information Technology Professional Development (ICTPD), Literacy Project, Numeracy Project, Distance Learning, and Gateway.
