Sports

Mackenzie College students are addicted to sports all year round and take part in a great range of local and South Island competitions. The school has a strong relationship with local clubs, so that all of the traditional sports are covered, plus some that you would not expect to find at most schools.

Swimming, tennis, mountain-biking and athletics are popular in the summer, as well as bowls, with a small and successful group leading the way in South Canterbury.

Snow sports in winter offer a special opportunity for students to ski and snowboard as a school sport on a Wednesday afternoon, receiving tuition for an hour and a half before free-skiing around Mt Dobson.

Our skiers and boarders were successful at this year’s regional and South Island competitions. Netball, rugby, hockey, basketball and soccer are the main focus for most of the students, with boys and girls’ soccer, and girls’ hockey being regular attendees at South Island tournaments.
